Strange dog

As time passed, more and more species of anamniotes grew more adapted to life on land. 2 ton stem-diadectomorphs used their long tongues to grab leaves from high branches and low shrubs, while 5 m long proterogyrinoids, which by this time resembled large sebecosuchians more than anything, were the top predators. Among these giants, there of course were smaller animals too. Lizard-like gephyrostegoids scurried in the undergrowth, while dog-sized proterogyrinoids and monitor lizard-like temnospondyls hunted them.
The most peculiar of these medium and small-sized anamniotes were perhaps the toad hounds though, a clade of toad-like stem-diadectomorphs, characterized by their heterodont dentition, short snouts, huge mouths and usually pretty big eyes. Like most stem-diadectomorphs of their time, toad hounds have lost their ties to water and lay soft-shelled eggs on land, although some species, similarly to their larger herbivorous cousins, give birth to live young. Toad-hounds also show extensive parental care, taking care of their young until they reach adulthood, usually between the ages of 1 and 3 months, depending on the species. Young toad-hounds are helpless on their own, making them dependant on their mothers milk-like substance produced by glands which in the past were used by their ancestors to produce mucus. Most-toad are omnivorous, feeding largely on insects and small animals, taking roots, tubers as well as leaves from time to time. The largest species can be up to 2 m long and the smallest ones can be as small as 20 cm in length, although most species range between 50 cm and 1 m.

Note: Toad-hounds are unique among the other anamniotes in that they're the first ones to develop filaments, although at this time, they're only present in hatchlings and only in the form of whiskers.
